Contemporary Combat is now under the direction of Ray Batiz w/ a two-part goal:

  1. Promoting and Supporting Global Combat Sports

  2. Spreading Positivity in the Universe

Ray “Shredder” Batiz is a relentless optimist, a slick guitar player, and an ardent lover of all things MMA. His infectious energy and unwavering positivity have made him a beloved figure in the fight community. Whether he’s cage-side at a local amateur event or analyzing pay-per-views, Ray’s passion for combat sports shines through.

Born and raised in the heart of Newark, New Jersey, Ray’s journey wound through local music studios and gigs at dive bars when a fellow musician suggested working out a neighborhood gym. The sound of leather hitting pads, the camaraderie among fighters—it was like a killer guitar solo or a sick bassline. Ray put down his guitar pick for hand wraps, and “Shredder” was born. His mission? To celebrate the warriors who step into the octagon, regardless of wins or losses, and always shredding.

“Shredder” doesn’t limit himself to local events. His passport bears stamps from Bangkok to Rio, from Tokyo to Dublin. He’s witnessed Muay Thai warriors in Thailand and Brazilian jiu-jitsu wizards in Brazil. Ray believes Martial Arts is a universal language—one that speaks courage, discipline, and heart.

On fight nights, you’ll find Ray surrounded by fellow fans. As the fighters walk out, he raises his glass (filled with kombucha) and toasts to their spirit. Win or lose, they’re all champions in his eyes. And when he’s not blogging or ripping a sick guitar lick, you’ll find him practicing his own rear-naked choke in the gym. 🌟👊
